In 1920, the United States Congress enacted the Death on the High Seas Act (DOHSA). Originally, the purpose of DOHSA was to help the widows of seamen who died in accidents at sea. Under the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act, an employee who has sustained a work related injury may recover medical benefits for all medical, surgical, and hospital treatment and other services required by the injury.
